Pediatric Services

  • Stainless steel crowns are a common choice for restoring severely damaged or decayed teeth in children. Given the thinner and less robust enamel in children's teeth, these crowns provide optimal protection when cavities extend across more than two surfaces. Additionally, they play a crucial role post-pulpotomies, sealing teeth to safeguard against contamination from the oral environment.

  • A dental sealant is a protective resin coating, and is expertly applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth, focusing on pits and grooves. Particularly beneficial for children, sealants act as a crucial preventive measure by filling deep grooves and pits, making it easier to ward off tooth decay. Integrated into a child's comprehensive preventive dental care routine, including proper oral hygiene, smart dietary choices, and regular dental check-ups, sealants contribute to a radiant, decay-resistant smile.

  • When decay reaches the pulp or "nerve" of a child's tooth, and the roots remain healthy, our therapist opts for a pulpotomy to save the tooth. This procedure involves cleaning out decay and removing the top part of the pulp tissue. After treatment, the tooth is filled with restorative material and capped with a stainless steel crown, fortifying and safeguarding the tooth for lasting strength.

  • Discover the gentle approach of Healthy Start—a non-invasive treatment that fosters arch and airway development, resulting in naturally straightened teeth. This innovative method involves wearing uniquely designed oral appliances for a few hours each day or during sleep, promoting nasal breathing, widening dental arches, and facilitating natural jaw development without braces.

Keep an eye out for nighttime teeth grinding, snoring, drooling, or bedwetting—potential indicators of sleep disordered breathing in children. Healthy Start is specifically crafted to address these issues, setting children on a trajectory for a successful lifetime.

Invisalign

  • Invisalign is a sophisticated orthodontic treatment designed to gently reposition your teeth through precise, digitally-guided forces.

  • Straight teeth extend beyond aesthetics, offering practical advantages. They facilitate effective cleaning, preventing calculus build-up in hard-to-reach areas. This proper force distribution ensures that the forces acting on teeth won't lead to periodontal issues, recession, or cracked teeth. Moreover, it promotes a stable and healthy bite, reducing the risk of TMJ issues.

  • Invisalign uses much more gentle orthodontic forces, minimizing the pain usually associated with traditional braces. You can also still achieve great oral hygiene, as removable aligners allow normal brushing and flossing for optimal teeth health. Embrace a more discreet path to straightening your teeth with clear attachments for an invisible treatment.

Restorative Services

  • Our dental fillings, crafted from composite resin, commonly referred to as 'white fillings,' offer both aesthetic appeal and functional restoration. This versatile material is adept at filling cavities post-decay removal, creating affordable veneer build-ups on anterior teeth, and repairing chipped or broken teeth. With a range of 'white' filling options available, we tailor our selection based on the specific needs of each situation, taking into account factors such as cavity location and aesthetic considerations.

  • Also known as 'caps,' crowns play a crucial role in restoring teeth with extensive damage or after procedures like root canals. When there's insufficient natural tooth structure to support fillings, a crown provides both structural and functional support. Whether you have a large filling, a broken tooth, or undergone a root canal, a crown can restore the tooth's shape, appearance, and function. Available in various colors and materials such as gold, porcelain, and zirconia, crowns are tailored to match your natural teeth seamlessly.

  • A bridge serves as a permanent dental restoration for replacing one or more missing teeth. Comprising an artificial tooth fused between two crowns, it restores both function and aesthetics. Supported by adjacent natural teeth or dental implants—a titanium metal root inserted into the jawbone—bridges are firmly anchored in place. Unlike removable options, bridges are fixed and provide a seamless solution for restoring your smile.

  • If you're missing one or more teeth, dental implants offer a comfortable and natural-looking alternative to bridges, partials, or complete dentures. Dental implants serve as replacements for missing roots, providing support for artificial replacement teeth that seamlessly blend with your natural smile.

A dental implant consists of a titanium metal artificial root surgically inserted into the jawbone, replicating the function of a natural tooth root. An artificial replacement tooth is then attached to the implant, securely anchored in place. While we don't perform implant placement at Wakaw Dental, we specialize in implant restoration and collaborate closely with Saskatoon Oral Surgery to ensure you receive the best possible outcome. Rest assured, we provide continuous care and support throughout your implant journey.

Dentures

  • Often termed 'false teeth' or 'full dentures’, these removable prosthetics are utilized when all natural teeth are absent. Secured by suction, they may initially cause discomfort and require an adjustment period.

At Wakaw Dental, our digital workflow streamlines the denture process. By digitally scanning and printing or milling, we efficiently create or enhance your smile. This approach also facilitates seamless denture relining, ensuring minimal disruption to your daily routine.

  • Also known as 'partials,' these removable prosthetics are used when nearby teeth lack strength for a bridge or when multiple teeth are missing. Artificial teeth held by clasps onto adjacent natural teeth, partial dentures offer removable convenience for cleaning and nighttime wear.

Our streamlined process involves two appointments. We digitally scan your mouth during the first appointment, sending the data to a lab in Calgary for 3D printing and denture design. Two weeks later, at your delivery appointment, you receive your new partial. This digital workflow reduces appointments and eliminates errors, ensuring a perfect fit tailored to your mouth.

  • Crafted prior to tooth extraction, immediate dentures are inserted immediately afterward. This ensures you're not without teeth during the healing period, which can last up to 6 months. Dr. Bertsch specializes in this transition, providing support and guidance throughout. We discuss nutrition and recovery strategies, staging treatment for manageable progress.

Using a digital workflow, we recreate your natural smile or create a new one you've always desired. Dr. Bertsch's goal is to ensure a smooth transition, crafting dentures that exude natural confidence rather than an artificial appearance.

  • As bone density decreases with age, traditional dentures may become less retentive, particularly on the lower jaw where tongue and cheek muscles can dislodge them. The optimal solution for denture patients is implant-supported dentures. Implants, placed by surgeons at Saskatoon Oral Surgery, provide a stable foundation, while Wakaw Dental ensures continuous care and management. The final denture, including implant abutments, is expertly crafted at Wakaw Dental for a secure and comfortable fit.

Oral Health and Facial Wellness

  • Temporomandibular joint disorders can stem from various causes, requiring thorough evaluation. Using advanced diagnostic tools such as panoramic radiographs, iTero 3D digital scans, and TScan digital occlusalgrams, we pinpoint the underlying factors contributing to your TMJ/TMD. Establishing a healthy and balanced bite is fundamental, often achieved through treatments like Invisalign or bite adjustments.

Beyond the dental office, Dr. Bertsch advocates for a collaborative approach to treatment. He may recommend specialists such as chiropractors, physiotherapists, Dr. Curtis Westersund, or massage therapists to address specific aspects of your case, ensuring comprehensive care for optimal results.

  • Starting July 2024, dentists in Saskatchewan, including Dr. Bertsch, will offer neuromodulators like Botox. Dr. Bertsch is undergoing specialized training to provide this service, available at our clinic this summer. Stay tuned for more information!
